Heat the oven to 375. Mix the flour, soda and salt. Beat the butter with both sugars until light, then the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla. Stir in the flour, then the chips. Drop rounded spoonfuls onto a lined sheet, two inches apart. Bake 9 to 11 minutes until the edges are golden and the middles look underdone. Cool on the sheet for two minutes, then on a rack.
