Reading Log Template
Twenty-two ruled rows for the date, the book, the pages and the minutes, with a box for an initial, and a name at the top, on one sheet.

A reading log is the sheet that goes home in the folder on Monday and comes back on Friday with the week's books on it, and it is filled in by a child, checked by a parent and read by a teacher, so the rows have to be big and the columns have to be few. Most printable logs are a spreadsheet with a cartoon owl. This one is twenty-two ruled rows with room for a pencil, the columns a log actually needs, and a name at the top.
The columns are the date, the book and its author, the pages read, the minutes, and a box for an initial, a parent's or a teacher's. The last three are switches: a class that counts minutes turns pages off, a home log turns initials off, and the book column widens to take the room. A line at the top holds the month or the term, in any words, or prints blank.
One decision worth explaining: the rows are ruled, not boxed. A row with a line under it is easier to write on than a cell, especially for a hand that is still learning, and twenty-two of them fill the sheet without crowding. Four weeks of one book a night is twenty-eight, so a month is one sheet and a bit.
The sage is the default theme because it is easy on the eye in a stack of them, and light ink is there for the class set printed thirty at a time. The title is yours, Reading log or Books this term or the class's name.
Print it at 100%, not fit to page, on plain copier paper. The free version is this design with the sample columns, in the Sage theme, on Letter or A4, with a small credit line at the foot. Which columns are there?
Date, book and author, pages, minutes, initials. Pages, minutes and initials are switches; turn one off and the book column widens.
Can I put a name on it?
Yes, under the title, and the month or the term at the right in any words.
Will it use a lot of ink?
Not in the light-ink theme, which is thin lines and one accent color, with nothing filled in. It is there for the class set.
Can my school use it?
Yes. The paid version includes small-business use, and a school counts. What you cannot do is resell the template itself.
Is there a subscription?
No. You pay once for the file. There is nothing to cancel.
